    August 3rd,  1884 3:30 pm

    Like I said, I would describe what we found at the bottom of this new depth... How do I begin... A vast and bottomless looking hole in the earth! After we rappelled to the bottom of the drop we found ourselves at the gigantic opening to what the Indian Guide told us was the   beginning of the great and terrible cave; the true cave that we have come all this way to explore....

    At the time I am writing this the rest of the Men have settled to camp... even though it is midday of August 3rd, the strength of which we have expended having come all this way, through cave and depth, has tired us
